70 Years Ago Today

MLB pays tribute to a legend.

Sometimes you have to forget about rivalries and consider the rich history of this sport.

The game does have a great and rich history to it. Gehrig's speech alone really hits you with that fact. Would go back in time just to be in the crowd that day to hear it if I could.

Steve - I thought it was great that the Red Sox had Curt Schilling involved in the reading of Lou Gehrig's speech at Fenway; he has spend more then 20 years raising funds for ALS research.

Indeed. I can't watch that speech without getting teary eyed.

Great stuff, Steve. It's a tremendous speech, one few would have been capable of delivering, of being magnanimous in the face of such a debilitating and ultimately deadly disease that tragically robbed a very strong man of his physical prowess and, ultimately, his life. Julia's point about Schilling's involvement in reading Gehrig's speech is a good one, given Schilling's extensive work for ALS-related research and funding. I feel the same way about the speech as Jeff. I literally get choked up when I see or read it.
