Who's Your Papi? J.D. Drew, That's Who.

JD launches one of 8 HRs this month.Remember when David Ortiz went down with the wrist injury last month and fans were so upset that they were ready to recruit Barry Bonds to step in and save the season? Where are those fans now? My guess is they're praying at the Church of J.D. Drew, savior of the 2008 Red Sox.

So just how good has Drew been this month? He's been off-the-charts good. Better-than-Ortiz good.

Sure, it's only 19 days into the month, but let's take a look at the numbers Drew has posted in the #3 spot in the lineup. You may not have noticed the tear J.D.'s been on because your Boston Celtics were busy grabbing all the headlines for the past few weeks, so here's a recap of his work since June 1st.

54 at-bats, 22 hits, 17 RBI for an average of .407. Extra base hits? 16, half of which were home runs. Add in 14 walks and his on-base percentage jumps to .529 with a staggering OPS of 1.566. Insane numbers for a guy who is looked at as an overpaid, passionless player.

I have no idea how long Drew's hot streak will continue, but let's hope he doesn't cool down until Big Papi's ready to return to the lineup.

Well technically, let us hope he never cools down. But he will eventually, as no player could ever stay this hot.

I think he'll cool down sooner rather than later, but for now it's an amazing run for him. This is probably the first time he's being recognized as a star athlete since he joined the team in 2007.
