No Hitter!

Lester continues to improve.Jon Lester threw a no hitter as the Red Sox blanked the Royals, 7-0. The final line: 130 pitches, no runs, no hits (obviously), two walks, nine strikeouts.

It's the second no-hitter for the Red Sox in less than a year, following Clay Buchholz's gem against Baltimore last September.

Lester is the first lefty to toss a no-hitter since Mel Parnell did it way back in 1956.

Jason Varitek became the first catcher in the modern era (a.k.a. "since 1900") to catch four no-hitters: Hideo Nomo (2001), Derek Lowe (2002), Buchholz (2007) and Lester (2008).

I saw Jon Lester toss a one-hitter against Toronto a few weeks ago and I questioned whether he had the makeup to be great. Here's some proof that this lefty has a chance to be better than a 3 or 4 in the rotation.

What an amazing story: From cancer in '06 to pitching the Game 4 winner of the '07 World Series and now a no-hitter. Amazing.

I gotta say you were right about Lester. I know it's only the Royals but a no-no's a no-no. Anytime you can go 9 innings against any major league team you have done something special. Very cool.

His whole life story is impressive as it is. The no-no is a nice way to complement it. The best part: he is still young and can yet continue doing greater things.

Great things were expected from Jon Lester after he was kept and Santana went to the Mets. He's making the Sox office look smart.
