Relief or Regret Regarding Santana Trade?

The good news is Santana's out of the American League

Seems like everyone involved in the Johan Santana trade is happy this morning, except the Twins front office and the fans in Minnesota. The Mets have a legit Number One starter (sorry Pedro) and they gave up a package of prospects that pales in comparison to the offers tendered in December by Boston and New York.

Meanwhile, Epstein & Cashman hold on to their young talent and head into Spring Training with solid lineups. Of course at some point this season one of the teams (or both) may regret not making the trade. With Cleveland poised for another trip to the playoffs and the reloaded Tigers ready to pounce, it's possible the wild card team may come out of the AL Central this year. If that's the case, then the second place Yankees or Red Sox will be sitting at home, perhaps watching the New York Mets win it all in 2008.
