The Comeback

Lugo just realized he's not on the Devil Rays any more.

It's games like yesterday's 6-5 win over Baltimore that show what a team is made of. The last time the Red Sox played with this kind of no-quit attitude was in 2004. I'm not saying necessarily that this team is destined for World Series glory, but I don't remember the Sox playing with this kind of confidence in '05 and '06. All I know is that things are going well so far and this team is a lot of fun to watch.

Just a couple of notes from the Baltimore game:

Julio Lugo swung at Ball 4, which would have tied the score. He's lucky embedded Sox mole Kevin Millar threw wide to pitcher Chris Ray or Lugo would be the goat of the game.

Does Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo deserve to be fired for pulling his dominant starter, Jeremy Guthrie, who scattered just three measly hits and was pulled with one out in the ninth after throwing just 91 pitches? That may be harsh, but unless Perlozzo had a really good reason that he wasn't sharing with the media, I'd send him packing.

"That's a game we should've won, period," Millar said. "There's no rhyme or reason why we should've lost that game." You know things are bad when Kevin won't make an excuse for his manager. Call Perlozzo the Anti-Grady.

The O's are bewildering. I see a lot of them down here in Norfolk, and game after game I find myself scratching my head as they find ways to lose. Don't know if it is Perlozzo's fault or not, but I'm definitely wondering because of moves like you noticed.
