Opening Day at Fenway
Ah, home again.
Somehow, the last week seemed like extended Spring Training. (Cue the Fox All-Star Game voiceover guy--but this time, it counts!) The season really, truly, officially gets underway at 2:05 this afternoon, when Josh Beckett squares off against Seattle's Number Five Guy, the consistently inconsistent Jeff Weaver. This is Beckett's second consecutive Fenway opener. I was lucky enough to get tickets to that game last year. As I recall, Beckett threw a ton of pitches, but he got the win against Toronto.
I still believe this is Josh Beckett's breakout year. Time will tell, but it seems he's clicked with the new pitching coach, John Farrell, and he successfully survived an up-and-down, Jeff Weaver-like, NL-to-AL transition year.
